Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence-based program that combines the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with mindfulness practices to help people better understand and manage their thoughts and emotions. MBCT teaches practical skills for recognizing unhelpful thinking patterns, staying present in the moment, and responding to life’s challenges with greater clarity and calm. Originally developed to help prevent relapse in depression, MBCT has also been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and emotional reactivity while improving overall well-being. Through guided meditation, gentle movement, and reflective exercises, participants learn to cultivate awareness, self-compassion, and resilience in everyday life.
MBCT was created by Zindel Segal, Mark Willaims, and John Teasdale. Heather trained to teach this program through Brown University and Zindel Segal. This is a therapeutic group. However, at this point insurance does not cover this specific group treatment.

MBCT is an evidenced based program that has been helpful in decreasing anxiety and depression. MBCT combines Cognitive Behavioral Techniques and Mindfulness to understand cycles of low mood, rumination, and unhelpful/critical thinking patterns. MBCT has been studied to be as effective as some SSRI’S in preventing depression and anxiety relapse. This is an 8 week group that will meet weekly for 1 1/2hours each session. While this is a time commitment, your healing and growth are worth the weekly time.
Each session includes guided mindfulness practices, group discussions, and exercises that link mindfulness with everyday experiences. Participants are encouraged to engage in daily home practice, using recordings and worksheets provided by the facilitator. No prior experience with meditation is needed, just a willingness to explore new ways of relating to thoughts and feelings. Over time, many participants report feeling calmer, more present, and better equipped to manage stress and mood fluctuations.
Mindfulness and Gratitude
Mindfulness and Gratitude is a 4 week class. Research, by psychologist R. Emmons, has shown that people who have a consistent gratitude practice can increase their positive well being by up to 25%. In this class people will learn different gratitude practices, mindfulness skills and consistently practice with a community to build an at home practice of gratitude. This class is designed to help increase positive emotion and build a stronger sense of connection. Gratitude has been linked in some studies to decrease depressive and anxiety symptoms and can increase a greater sense of wellbeing in life. This is a class and not a therapeutic group.
