Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
MBCT is an evidenced based program that has been helpful in decreasing anxiety and depression. MBCT combines Cognitive Behavioral Techniques and Mindfulness to understand cycles of low mood, rumination, and unhelpful/critical thinking patterns. MBCT has been studied to be as effective as some SSRI’S in preventing depression and anxiety relapse. This is an 8 week group that will meet weekly for 1 1/2hours each session. While this is a time commitment, your healing and growth are worth the weekly time.
This is a standard treatment option in England and more clinicians are becoming trained in the United States to offer this treatment. I trained with Zindel Segal, one of the developers of this treatment.

Participating in a Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) program is a structured, experiential journey toward greater awareness and emotional well-being. The program typically runs for eight weekly sessions, each lasting about two hours, plus a day of mindfulness practice. In a supportive group setting, participants learn mindfulness meditation, gentle movement, and practical cognitive techniques that help them notice and respond to negative or automatic thought patterns.
Each session includes guided mindfulness practices, group discussions, and exercises that link mindfulness with everyday experiences. Participants are encouraged to engage in daily home practice, using recordings and worksheets provided by the facilitator. No prior experience with meditation is needed—just a willingness to explore new ways of relating to thoughts and feelings. Over time, many participants report feeling calmer, more present, and better equipped to manage stress and mood fluctuations.
MBCT was created by Zindel Segal, Mark Willaims, and John Teasdale. Heather trained to teach this program through Brown University and Zindel Segal.

This is a 4 week class that uses some of the techniques from MBCT in a shorter class. Gratitude has been linked in some studies to decrease depressive and anxiety symptoms and can increase a greater sense of wellbeing in life. In this four week course we will explore different gratitude practices and have a sense of community to support the changes in habit.
